Jim Beam Rye is geen bourbon whiskey, maar een Kentucky Straight Rye volgens het oudste Beam familierecept uit 1795. Een Rye Whiskey was de mainstream whiskey van voor de drooglegging. Door de drooglegging zijn de meeste Rye Whiskey stokers failliet gegaan, daardoor verdween Rye Whiskey grotendeels, maar is vandaag de dag weer helemaal terug van weggeweest. Het distillaat van Jim Beam Rye bestaat voor 51% uit rogge en dit komt terug in de aroma’s ondersteund door rokerige eikenhouten tonen. De smaak van rogge komt fijn samen met zoete fruit hinten en smeulende as smaken.
