In 2021, De Kuyper Royal Distillers embarked on a new journey with the introduction of De Kuyper Zero. Crafting non-alcoholic cocktails marked a significant stride for our company, aligning seamlessly with our ‘Own the Cocktail’ vision to provide exceptional cocktail experiences for everyone, every taste and every occasion.

De Kuyper Zero emerged as a response to the global trend of no and low alcohol consumption. We’ve observed an increasing number of consumers seeking to enjoy social moments without or with reduced alcohol consumption. At the same time, they do not want to compromise on taste and experience. We recognized the importance of offering alternatives that promote responsible alcohol consumption while still delivering an indulgent experience.

However, crafting a non-alcoholic cocktail that rivaled its alcoholic counterparts was not without its challenges. Alcohol is an important ingredient in a cocktail, providing not only flavor, but also a certain mouthfeel. Additionally, alcohol also has practical properties such as shelf life and stability. We were looking for a sensation equal to that of an alcoholic cocktail. In other words, a non-alcoholic cocktail should really be different from soda or fruit juice.

It was a huge quest to develop a sensation equal to that of an alcoholic cocktail. As a result, it was one of our most complex new product development projects. Through the artful blend of botanicals and carefully guarded secret ingredients, we succeeded in capturing the essence of traditional cocktails, from the rich flavors of for example rum and tequila to the satisfying mouthfeel that gives you a real kick and the experience of an adult beverage.
